Jesus wasn’t Political??
If you’ve been in church your whole life,
you may be forgiven for believing that
Jesus was not political.
After all, churches don’t talk much about Jesus.
He challenged the governing class,
Why do you violate the law of God
in your public policy?
He accused the lawmakers of making laws
that only apply to others
and of governing against the law of God
He accused the lawmakers of actually being lawbreakers
He challenged the policy of leniency regarding divorce
He criticized the Sabbath policies
He objected to ritual cleansing policies
He objected to the governing class’ policy which encouraged
the breach of contract and the upsetting of the priority of creditors
He took issue with the temple tax
He advocated for an individual’s right to own and use property
He entered Jerusalem purposely as a political figure
He cleared out the Temple vendors and managers,
seized control of the civic square,
and presented His own platform
He was crucified–
a political execution for a political crime
